Floquet Wave Diffraction Theory for Tapered Planar Strip Array Green’s Function

چکیده
This paper deals with the derivation and physical interpretation of a uniform high frequency representation of the Green’s function for a planar phased array of dipoles. The asymptotic representation is based on Floquet wave edge diffraction theory herein extended to accommodate slowly varying tapered amplitude illumination with possible inclusion of dipole amplitudes that tend to zero at the edge. The phased array is assumed to be infinite with uniform amplitude excitation in the z -direction but finite and amplitude-tapered in the x -direction. This geometry permits study of diffraction phenomena occurring at the tapered edge of a rectangular array when the observation point is far from its vertexes, and extends earlier results valid for equiamplitude excitation with inclusion of subdominant slope diffraction terms. Numerical calculations are included to demonstrate the accuracy of the asymptotic algorithm. The results obtained here have already found applications to (i) a Floquet-ray algorithm which is being interfaced with available codes based on the Geometrical Theroy of Diffraction (GTD), and (ii) the construction of a method of moments code which uses global basis functions shaped like diffracted currents arising from the edges and vertexes of the array; both projects are sponsored by the European Space Agency (ESA).

A Novel Method for Ultrasonic Evaluation of Horizontal Defects Using Time-of-Flight Diffraction
Time-of-flight diffraction method (ToFD) is an amplitude-independent sizing method which is based on the measurement of time-of-flight of defect tip diffracted waves. Although ToFD can measure through-wall length of defect accurately, this method is not capable of measuring horizontal defect size. In this paper, a new ToFD method for evaluating horizontal planar defects is presented. The finite...
متن کاملOn the Secondary Source Type Mismatch in Wave Field Synthesis Employing Circular Distributions of Loudspeakers
The theory of wave field synthesis has been formulated for linear and planar arrays of loudspeakers but has been found to be also applicable with arbitrary convex loudspeaker contours with acceptable error. The main source of error results from the fact that the required properties of the employed loudspeakers are dictated by the Neumann Green’s function of the array geometry under consideratio...

An analysis of plane wave scattering from a finite 1-D periodic penetrable screen is presented with the aim of demonstrating the effectiveness and the accuracy of high frequency asymptotic solutions when combined with approximate homogeneous transition boundary conditions. The results of the numerical investigation are relevant to the electromagnetic scattering from a large planar semi-transpar...
متن کاملShadow Theory of Diffraction Grating
This paper deals with a new formulation for the diffraction of a plane wave by a periodic grating. As a simple example, the diffraction of a transverse magnetic wave by a perfectly conductive periodic array of rectangular grooves is discussed. On the basis of a shadow hypothesis such that no diffraction takes place and only the reflection occurs with the reflection coefficient −1 at a low grazi...
